BRIEF

AC PLC was selected as a flooring sub-contractor for this new state-of-the-art stadium for Brighton & Hove Albion FC. The community stadium seats 22,500 fans and is built to the east of the city at Falmer. As well as providing top quality stadium facilities for general spectators it incorporates BHAFC’S offices, a club shop, corporate hospitality and, conference facilities which have dual use with the Football Club’s education partners, plus independent education space for the local College.

WORK

The total value of this contract was £65 million. Work on the new Falmer Stadium design started in July 2007 and was completed in May 2011. The stadium scheme was designed by London Sports Architects KSS Design Group.

AC’s scope of works for the building was extensive and included several custom design carpets to aid in the visual and quality requirements recommended by the stadium. A large number of manufacturers were needed to ensure the detailed design requirements were achieved and the manufacturers included: Shaw, Christy, Desso, Milliken, and Interface. Armstrong, Polyflor, Altro, Tarkett, and Nora were utilised for the resilient coverings, and Domus were employed to supply the tiling.

OUTCOME

The stadium was designed to interact with the surrounding natural landscape on the edge of the Sussex Downs. The impressive, curved arch roof reflects the shape of the rolling countryside and therefore complements the landscape.
